Waihi Beach Lifeguard Services
In 1936 Waihi Surf Life Saving Club was founded to provide beachgoers with patrolled swimming areas. Located at the Northern end of Waihi Beach, the beach is actively patrolled between Labour Weekend and Easter. Each volunteer lifeguard is committed to providing a range of services from rescues, to first aid, beach education, event support, call-out squad and a number of other vital services.
During the summer months the beach has thousands of visitors who enjoy the hospitality of the club in its role as host to a number of NZ Surf Lifesaving events as well as community fun days. This includes the annual New Year’s Beach Sport Day, the Beach Fun Run/walk, Sandcastle Competition and other great family events.
Children who want to learn about beach education and participate in a great sports programme are welcome to become junior surf athletes. This popular programme is designed for 5 to 14 year olds and operates every Sunday morning from late October until March. For young adults there are two rewarding programmes –Rookie Lifeguard and Lifeguard Award – that prepare and support individuals to become lifeguards.
The club has great facilities for both lifeguards and its members. The view from the deck is stunning and it is heaven to sit on while enjoying great food and company. New members are welcome to enjoy The Deck facilities through a social membership.
For more membership details view the website or visit The Deck Cafe and Bar.
