Coastguard Information

If you own a boat, you should be a member of Waihi Beach Volunteer Coastguard. Subs are just $40.00 per annum and include one free tow, but what's more important is you're supporting an organisation that saves lives. With two state of the art, fully equiped, ridged inflatables- a Rayglass 8.5m with twin 200hp Yamahas and a Kingfisher 4.5m with a 175 hp Mercury both shallow and deep water rescues are covered. The club operates and has listenening watches on VHF channel 85 and emergency distress channel 16 VHF. Clubrooms are located next to Bowentown Holiday Park. Household Refuse Collection
A weekly collection is made every Monday. Bags are to be placed on the roadside by 7.30am. Please use only Western BOP District Council official bags. These can be purchased from the usual outlets. Do not use the rubbish bins on reserves for household refuse this is an of-fence and substantial fines may be incurred.

Rubbish Disposal
General rubbish can be dumped at the Dean Crescent transfer station in Waihi. Off main Waihi - Paeroa Rd. Green waste, paper, glass and cans is accepted at the old Athenree dump site on Saturday mornings 9am - 12 noon Thurs & Sun afternoons 1 - 4pm.

Water Restrictions
These will be advised in local newspapers and on 89.4 FM.

Camping
Camping in reserves is strictly prohibited. This includes motor-homes.

Unauthorised Vehicles
Vehicles and motorcycles are not permitted on the beach or sand dunes.

Dogs
Dog Ranger 0800 926 732
Dogs are banned from the foreshore from the third Wednesday in December until the second Wednesday in February between the hours of 9am and 7pm. At all other times they must be kept under proper control. Dogs are not permitted on scenic reserves at any time.

Horses
Horses and other stock are not permitted on the foreshore at any time, from Island View to the northern part of Waihi Beach. Horses are per-
mitted on the foreshore from Albacore Avenue (Island View) to Pio's Road (Pio Shores). They are however, banned from the third Wednesday in December until the second Wednesday in February, between the hours of 9am and 7pm. At all other times they must be kept under proper control.

Liquor Ban
The Liquor Ban is in place 24/7/365 on all reserves, beaches and public places in the Waihi Beach area i.e.24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Fire Ban
Over the Christmas period a full fire ban is in place, including wood burning BBQ's. If you require a permit call WBOPDC on 0800 926 732.

Library Hours
Tuesday & Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Saturdays 9.00am to 12 noon. Ph: 863 5609. Local membership $2.00. Temporary membership is available at a charge of $20 during the holidays with a $17 refund when you leave the beach, provided you return all books.

Waihi Beach Community Police Station & Victim Support Ph: 07 863 5236
Waihi Beach Police Station houses two policemen with backup help from Waihi as necessary and over the Christmas/New Year holiday period. Four qualified victim support volunteers can be contacted through the police station, 24 hours a day. The station is manned from 9am to 12 noon and 1pm to 4pm seven days a week.
